Modernity postmodernists reject,
while modern rationality now finds
romantic notions of the world suspect
in Hegel's dialectics for our minds.
And so this verse is rendered out-of-style
by two or three deterministic shifts
in taste among effete bibliophiles,
some fortunately blessed with verbal gifts.
Yet I, being but modestly endowed,
enjoy the simple synapse-tickling rhyme
and meter of our forebears who were proud
to write with quill and ink, and take their time.
So, gentle reader, when you chance upon it,
please gently read and kindly judge my sonnet.
